Maternity Insurance

Plan for the baby, not the bill

Maternity cover is one of the few benefits you have to buy long before you need it. Almost every plan has a waiting period of a few years, so the best time to sort this is well before you're planning.

What you get

Cover that actually works for you

Delivery costs covered

Normal and caesarean deliveries are covered up to a limit, which varies a lot between plans, so the limit matters more than the headline.

Newborn cover from day one

Good plans cover your baby from birth, including treatment if the newborn needs care.

Pre & post natal expenses

Scans, consultations and follow-ups around the delivery, often capped, so we compare the caps carefully.

Cashless delivery

Deliver at a network hospital without paying the bill upfront and claiming later.

Waiting periods, compared honestly

This is the whole ballgame. We line up the shortest realistic waiting periods so your plan is ready when you are.

Vaccination cover

Some plans cover your baby's first-year vaccinations, a small benefit that quietly adds up.

Buyer's checklist

What to check before buying maternity cover

  • The waiting period, buy years before you plan, not months
  • The delivery limit, and whether normal and caesarean are capped differently
  • Whether the newborn is covered from day one
  • Limits on pre-natal and post-natal expenses
  • Whether existing pregnancy is excluded (it almost always is)
  • Network hospitals with the maternity facilities you'd want

Maternity Insurance FAQs

Unfortunately no, an existing pregnancy is treated as a pre-existing condition and is excluded by essentially every insurer. This is why maternity has to be planned years ahead.

Typically two to four years depending on the plan. That's the single most important number to compare, because a shorter wait is what makes the benefit usable.

It depends on your timeline. If a baby is several years away, the maths often favours strong base cover now. If you're planning within the waiting window, it can pay for itself. We'll run both.

Many group plans include maternity with little or no waiting period. Check it first, you may only need to top up the gaps rather than buy a whole new plan.

Better plans cover the newborn from day one, and let you add the baby as a full member at renewal. We check this specifically before recommending.
